Description   An introduction to the fundamental principles and practices of psychology continued. Includes sensation and perception, states of consciousness, motivation, emotion, stress, social behavior and abnormal behavior. This is not a general education elective for students seeking technical degrees.

Course Goals  
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the significant features in sensation, perception, consciousness, motivation, emotion, stress, and social interaction.
  • Describe the main elements involved in vision, hearing, smell, taste, and the body senses.
  • Discuss circadian rhythms, sleep, dreaming, hypnosis, meditation, and psychoactive drugs.
  • Discuss the motivation to eat and drink, intrinsic motivation, and achievement motivation.
  • Discuss the main issues and theories involved in understanding emotion.
  • Explain the main causes of stress and how to cope with it.
  • Discuss attribution, attitudes, prejudice, conformity, obedience, helping, and group behavior.
2. Describe the major psychological disorders and the chief therapies used for treating them.
  • Describe the anxiety disorders.
  • Explain mood disorders and suicide.
  • Discuss the dissociative disorders.
  • Describe the symptoms, course, and causes of schizophrenia.
