Description   Law enforcement skills and techniques to fulfill partial requirements for peace officer training certification as required by the Attorney General's Office and the Ohio Peace Officer's Training Council.

Course Goals  
1. Have the knowledge and skills to improve their own physical condition in the area of body composition, flexibility, dynamic strengths, and endurance.
  • The student will be able to meet the standards set by the OPOTC:
  • Sit ups
  • Push ups
  • 1.5 mile run
2. Follow proper procedures for booking a prisoner at a jail facility;
  • The student will know the importance of health screening for a prisoner being booked into the facility.
  • The student will know the items for which you must observe during a preliminary health screening.
  • The student will know the process of obtaining classifiable fingerprints.
  • The categories of information which a law enforcement agency shall lprovide the victim of a crime after the arrest of a defendant.
3. Have the knowledge and skill necessary to administer emergency aid to the injured and ill;
  • The student will be able to perform First Aid Techniques.
  • The student will be able to perform CPR techniques.
4. Perform the basic principles and tactics of unarmed self-defense; know how to defend physical attack, and control aggressive behavior;
  • The students will understand the principles of defensive tactics.
  • The student will know the subject control techniques as stated in the OPOTC curriculum.
  • The student will know how to reasonably respond to reststance and aggression that you may encounter
  • when making an arrest.
5. Understand the complexity of the police officer's role in a democratic society;
  • The student will learn the behaviors to be berformed in the course of pursuing onesjob or vocation.
  • The student will understand that role conflict occurs when the officer perceives a clash between competing perceptions, values and standards whe deciding what behavior is appropriate.
6. Know rules of evidence and procedures for processing crime scenes;
  • The student will know what evidence consists of.
  • The student will know the rules for chain of custody.
  • The student will know how to mark tag and perserve evidence.
7. Understand and handle safely the double-action revolver and semi-automatic pistol;
  • The student will know how to Safely handle his firearm on the pistol range, at home, and in the general course of his duties.
  • The student will meet all OPOTC standards as far as marksmanship standards.
8. Know recommended defensive driving principles and tactics;
  • The student will develop an accepted attitudes for safe driving methods and decision-making for collisionavoidance while learning to simultaneously integrate the tasks of driving and law enforcement.
  • The student will develop the ability to accomplish the emergency drining task by understanding the risk of the driving activity.
  • the student will develop the abiity to accomplish the pursuit driving task by understanding the risk of the pursuit driving activity.
