Course Goals  
1. Describe the background, basic terms and processes of welding.
  • Discuss the history of welding.
  • Define key terms related to welding.
  • List the factors to be considered before a welding process is selected.
  • Explain how each one of the major welding processes works.
2. Describe and implement personal safety procedures when using welding equipment.
  • Describe and use the type of protection that should be worn for welding.
  • Describe and implement the proper method of handling, storing, and setting up welding equipment.
3. Identify and implement various types of welding procedures.
  • Explain differences in welding with the three types of current.
  • Identify welding machines according to type.
  • Demonstrate how to select and set the welding current.
  • Describe the proper maintenance of welding equipment.
  • Practice making the basic types of welds.
4. Set up and operate oxyfuel welding and cutting equipment.
  • Describe how to maintain the major components of oxyfuel welding equipment.
  • Explain the method of testing an oxyfuel system for leaks.
  • Demonstrate how to set up, light, adjust, use, extinguish and disassemble oxyfuel welding equipment safely.
5. Combine, construct and assess different welding practices.
  • Organize and match types of welds with welding materials and metals used.
  • Demonstrate the difference between types of weldable metals.
  • Demonstrate proper use of both hand and power tools to assist in the welding process.
  • Access various welding job scenarios.
